Case study: Frankie Sanders, HGV Driver

15 Oct

CCF is an integral part of the wider Travis Perkins group. As a leading distributor of interior building products within the construction industry, drivers are absolutely essential to the smooth running of operations. Capable, organised and highly skilled, our drivers ensure the right product is in the right place at the right time - which, with a product range of over 100,000 materials and items - is no mean feat.

Frankie Sanders is an HGV Driver with CCF who loves what he does. Here’s his story:

“I’ve always loved driving and have a background in it”

Before joining CCF, Frankie worked as a van driver for Citylink and a home delivery service, as well as being a porter/passenger for IKEA. It was when he was working through an agency that he first encountered CCF. After completing some work for the business, Frankie was asked to apply for a van driver vacancy, and the rest is history.

“I like meeting new people and seeing different scenarios”

Frankie is genuinely passionate about driving and the opportunities it gives him to meet new people. He also enjoys being challenged and testing himself, which is important in a Driver role where no two days are the same and every customer has different requirements.

“My work day starts fairly early”

Frankie is at work at 6am, where he starts his day by greeting colleagues, completing the ever-important vehicle checks and planning his route. He’ll call customers before he arrives at their premises and have a chat with them when he does the drop. After offloading the goods, he’ll get a customer signature via the ePOD system before heading back to base. Some days he’ll have re-loads so will pack up straight away and head out to the next customer. Once all the drops are done he’ll clean his lorry, complete end-of-day checks, get loaded and strapped for the next day, chat to his colleagues in the office and then head home.

“My time outside work is spent with my children”

With three kids, Frankie’s spare time is packed with long walks with the dog and heading to the coast, soaking up as much family time as possible.

“There are great benefits for progression at CCF”

Progressing from a Van Driver to a HGV driver, Frankie is proof of CCF's progression opportunities. He also says the team has a real family feel, where colleagues are friends and everyone helps each other out. Because of this, he feels like he is well and truly part of a team.

“You’re pushed to do the best you can every day”

Frankie encourages other drivers to seek out a career with CCF, saying that if you’re prepared to work hard, you’ll find a career in a positive, friendly environment where everyone gets along and has a laugh.
