Victoria, Digital Marketing Apprentice

01 May

Victoria Nazarov is one of Group Technology Services’ first colleagues to take on the challenge of an apprenticeship. Mixing her current experience with skills for the future, she is studying Digital Marketing - a Level 3, 18 month course.

"It's a skill set that we don't see too much of within GTS," Victoria said. "And moving forward I think it will be an important element in future-proofing the TP business, and something that I'm very interested in."

She's able to mix her day-to-day role with both on-the-job learning and dedicated classroom time: "One day if I have a lot of work it can be as simple as watching a few YouTube videos or a webinar, on other days when I have more capacity I'll get more into something.

Not only has it been a great way to learn, it's also been useful for networking, "I attend workshops at the Group Training and Development Centre along with around 10 other TP employees from all areas of the business, so it has been good to find out what they do and how they will use the course in their areas."

If she has one piece of advice for anyone thinking of taking on an apprenticeship it's to make sure that the time is right for you: "You have to commit to it, and it is a cliche but the more you put into it, the more you will get out of it.

"But also don't feel intimidated by the level of work involved. It is achievable: I'm not up studying until midnight, all of my studying takes place within work time."

While completing an apprenticeship is never a guarantee of a new role within GTS or the wider company, Victoria is confident that the skills she learns will be of benefit in whatever happens next: "I haven't approached it with the mindset that at the end I will go into a new job, but I know that I'll bring new skills to the department and I'll be a much more rounded person.

"I've definitely got a new enthusiasm for coming into work."
