A little about the role…
We are currently looking for a Digital Designer to join the team. You will be expected to provide exciting, creative, and successful designs for Wickes’ digital channels to support development, promotional and user experience activities.
You will be responsible for improving the customer experience and sales potential through high standards of creative design. Your responsibilities will include developing creative ideas and producing visual solutions to meet the needs of our website and related communication channels.
We'll expect you to be a guardian of the look, feel, branding and usability of our websites and part of a high-performing Digital Experience team. A keen eye for User Experience best practice and competitor activity, you will use this knowledge to continuously improve the Wickes online presentation. For this position we are seeking a highly creative designer that is happy to work in a team and is extremely adaptable to the constantly evolving trends in the online environment.

Key Objectives
Creation of concepts / designs to support development activity, utilizing a variety of methods (storyboards, UI designs, prototypes) to articulate
Creation of UI designs across all digital platform and device channels (web, App, Mcommerce)
Own and be accountable for the delivery of all the above BAU changes – ensuring that changes are delivered effectively and any issues with changes are resolved promptly.
Design concepts for site changes and new projects (e.g. new season launches, sales) - Present creative solutions to the wider team with relation to the original brief, which ensure we are always looking ahead and keeping up with competitors
Work closely with the ecommerce team to bring merchandising solutions to life
Utilise external sources, eg customer research, customer analytics, market research to create optimized design recommendations
Ability to apply multi-variant / test and learn approach to design solutions, identifying the best solutions from a range of design options – understand and apply KPI’s to decision making
Produce graphic and HTML content in line with briefs provided by the trading team; including page layouts and themes, site graphics, banner ads:
Website content and design changes
Management of assets through a Content Management System
Support for the execution of partner brand and supplier funded activity
What we are looking for in you?
You will be an online design professional with demonstrable experience of commercial web design. You will have excellent communication skills, be a strong team player and be able to work in a busy and demanding environment. Previous experience from a multichannel retail environment is desirable.
Experience in a similar role is ideal with an agency or with a retail/leisure organisation where your focus was on delivering engaging and inspiring content.
You will also have experience of working with Content Management Systems and an in-depth knowledge of current design trends and techniques.
The ability to communicate creative ideas clearly and succinctly.
Highly knowledgeable of the latest web standards and best practices, accessibility requirements, usability guidelines, and web technologies.
Excellent typographic skills and a high level of attention to detail in all aspects of design – experience in copywriting and designing content for SEO would be useful.
Ability to work well within a team, meet tight deadlines, and manage workload effectively.
Must be a solid decision-maker – aware of commercial impacts of their delivery and able to react quickly and effectively in difficult or time-precious situations.
You will be flexible and adaptive – able to manage multiple streams of activity and prioritise your own workload to ensure key project or change timeframes are met.
Technical Experience
Ability to interface between marketing and technology functions - Ability to balance delivery of immediate tactical work with longer-term
Proficient in Creative cloud, Axure, Sketch.
Proficient in CSS & HTML
User Experience design – Wireframes, Prototyping, Usability testing
Adobe creative suites eg Photoshop, Illustrator and Dreamweaver
Experience of Responsive design and responsive websites
Experience of Google Analytics
