Head of Platforms 
Location - Northampton

We have an exciting new role to join our newly formed  IT department within the Plumbing and Heating division. This role will be based in the newly refurbished offices located at Harvey Reeves Road Northampton. 

The Role

The role will provide leadership, ownership and accountability for the provision of cost effective and robust technical infrastructure services, including hosting and networks provision.

Principe Accountabilities
  • Accountable for the provision of cost effective, scalable and fit-for-purpose network & server infrastructure and related support services including providing quality second and third line user support, delivered within agreed SLAs and cost targets. All end of life services to be safely decommissioned promptly
  • Accountable for the provision and delivery performance of third party services to agreed service levels and costs. Build and maintain excellent working relationships with colleagues and partners, including frequent and effective communications, to help ensure success, to reduce conflict and to discuss and agree priorities
  • Accountable for the design & build of infrastructure solutions needed to deliver business outcomes. Making cost effective decisions on selecting Software as a Service (SAAS), Infrastructure as a Service (IAAS), Platform as a Service (PAAS) or on premise solutions to fit business needs
  • Accountable for managing agreed projects and deployments of technology as required ensuring that work is delivered to the agreed standard, within the agreed timetable and within the agreed budget
  • Accountable for all network and infrastructure incidents (including major) ensuring timely resolution, identification of root cause and remediation activity to prevent recurrence
  • Management of 3rd party delivery teams and consultancies to deliver the future engineering platforms supporting the Plumbing and Heating digital transformation roadmap
  • Develop, maintain and communicate a clear technical strategy and architecture for the client environment within Plumbing & Heating being cognisant of the differing requirements of the brands and small business units within the wider business
  • Accountable for the operation of both Data Centres ensuring they are fit for purpose and the relevant teams have all the required policies and procedures to maintain and run them effectively

What you will have 
  • Professional qualification - IT related qualifications in ITIL or other Service discipline
  • Recognised agile methodology such as SaFE or Scrum
  • Proven leadership skills and experience in managing infrastructure teams
  • Experience in working within an ITIL / Standards orientated organisation
  • Proven experience of managing third parties through significant organisational, structural and technology change
  • Proven budget capability to use methods and techniques to operate within agreed budget level
  • The post holder can demonstrate skill in Risk Management ensuring risks are appropriately identified and mitigated
  • A deep understand of the various cloud based offerings (Infrastructure as a Service, Platform as a Service) and the associated risks, benefits and costs of each
  • Actively discusses, develops and promotes best practices to colleagues, team leaders and department heads
  • Self motivated ability to initiate and complete tasks to deadlines
  • A clear understanding of continual service improvement
  • You will be an effective listener, communicator and hold problem solving and analytical skills
