Infrastructure Architect 

Location - Northampton 
£Competitive + Bonus and Benefits 

We have an exciting new role to join our newly formed  IT department within the Plumbing and Heating division. This role will be based in the newly refurbished offices located at Harvey Reeves Road Northampton. 


The Role
You will be responsible for the technical design and the provision of 3rd line support of applications and infrastructure solutions that support delivery and maintenance of Plumbing & Heating IT systems

Within this role you will be accountable for defining standards and templates in conjunction with the Solutions Architect and working with engineers to deliver solutions for the end to end Service team that adhere to company standards and meet the demands of the solution.



Principe Accountabilities
  • Responsible for the detailed design of applications and infrastructure solutions that support delivery and maintenance of business IT systems, balancing requirements, costs and risk. Determine technical design requirements and specifications (based on functional and non-functional requirements including security, performance, resilience, scalability and supportability), develop the technical design conforming to the approved architecture and evaluate the technical design through self, architecture and (optionally) engineering reviews. Support the delivery (where appropriate and by exception) of small project teams in design and delivery of the solutions identified
  • Provides 3rd line technical support of application and infrastructure as required and approves or recommends remediation of the solution/release technical design through a validation function as required. Actively participates in all support and service related activities including Disaster Recovery and Business Continuity Planning (DR & BCP) development and testing, incident and problem identification and resolutions, service improvements, service reviews and best practice identification
  • Acting as an expert in the design and deployment of IT solutions, provides technical guidance to colleagues, conducts peer engineering reviews (when required) to assess the logic and applicability of a technical design for the solution/release including identifying opportunities for developing shared platforms and services, simplification and cost reduction. Carries out solution options evaluation for technical deliverables
  • Supporting the successful delivery of projects, to technically support solutions while in Research & Development/Proof Of Concept/pilot phase or solutions that are operationally live, until handed over to service delivery staff, and assisting project managers, Service Owners/Service Leads in creating and maintaining project plans (focused on, but not exclusively around, technical design deliverables and risks) and technical governance. Working with 3rd party services, delivery partners and external vendors to deliver solutions
  • Supports Plumbing & Heating IT Architecture in development of roadmaps, standards, IT strategy, infrastructure / applications strategy, and architecture proposals and prepares key design decision papers for architecture governance / design authority
  • Take the initiative to propose improvements to IT and business solutions, processes, design, interfaces and architecture, backing suggestions up with clear, concise supporting arguments
  • Demonstrable expertise in the designated technologies
  • Full systems development lifecycle experience from requirements gathering through to design, development, testing and deployment.
  • Experience of supporting installations and use of hardware that are key to the designated area of technology expertise
  • Take the initiative to propose improvements to IT and business solutions, processes, design, interfaces and architecture, backing suggestions up with clear, concise supporting arguments
What you will have 
  • It would be preferred if you hold a recognised architecture accreditation such as TOGAF or Zachman Framework
  • Demonstrable expertise in the designated technologies
  • Full systems development lifecycle experience from requirements gathering through to design, development, testing and deployment.
  • Experience of supporting installations and use of hardware that are key to the designated area of technology expertise.
  • Superior analytical, evaluative, and problem-solving abilities
  • Proven leadership skills to drive the future technology roadmap
  • Excellent communication skills both written and oral with excellent interpersonal skills demonstrable at all levels of the organisation
  • Technology-savvy in a broad context with an ability to design solutions to meet current requirements and support future Business and IT objectives.
  • Excellent knowledge of technology environments, including cloud, outsourced and Software as a Service (SAAS) environments.
  • Excellent understanding of project management principles
