Purchase Ledger Team Leader

Location - Northampton

Division - Plumbing & Heating

Grade: C5


We have an exciting opportunity to recruit a Purchase Ledger Team Leader to join the Travis Perkins Plumbing & Heating division. As a result of a hugely exciting business transformation, we're setting up a new Purchase Ledger department at our newly refurbished site in Northampton town centre.


You will be responsible for effectively managing a team of Purchase Ledger Clerks - ensuring correct and timely processing of all scheduled tasks. You will provide support support to the Purchase Ledger Manager in ensuring the strategic advantage is achieved by providing an industry leading accounts payable infrastructure.  With this role, the business will can support and develop other indirectly related projects more efficiently and cost effectively.


Key accountabilities will include:


  • Effectively lead, motivate and where necessary train team members whilst maximising opportunities for skill development and motivation.

  • Assist in setting monthly goals and objectives and ensure department meets productivity standards.

  • Identify errors and error patterns, ensure corrective feedback and escalate training needs to manager if necessary

  • Escalate difficult and emotional situations to the department manager

  • Ensure collation of sufficient notes relating to individual’s performance for monthly performance reviews.  To be documented in line with company practice.

  • Delegation of work assignments matching the responsibility to the person.

  • During holiday and sickness re-organise workload to ensure that team targets are achieved.

  • Assisting in interview selection when required.

  • Manage any Purchase Ledger accounts as deemed necessary.

  • Escalate any issues/problems to the manager when necessary.

  • Absenteeism/holiday recording

  • Observe health & safety procedures.

  • Participate in company meetings and training sessions.

  • Any ad-hoc requirements.


To be considered for this role, it would be preferable if you are studying for your AAT qualification or equivalent. With your experience of working in a Finance team, this is a perfect opportunity to take the next step in your career. You will communicate at all levels and provide high attention to detail and accuracy. You will need to understand all areas of business and the impact Purchase Ledger can have on the business. It is important that you are a team player, logical, methodical and can work on your own initiative in a fast paced environment.
