The role we're recruiting for:


The Scrum Master is accountable for the output of the scrum team, by removing impediments, accurately measuring velocity and validating product roadmaps with the business.

The role includes performance and line management of the teams and growth as required to meet the demands of the Business.  Activities surrounding the management of the team include accountability for one to one’s, appraisals, career development, recruitment etc.


Your key accountabilities will include:


  • Be accountable for the team delivery of the sprint commitments.  Must be able to facilitate discussion and alternatives incorporating different approaches as required to ensure commitments can be met.

  • Remove impediments for the team, ensuring impacts to commitments are minimised.

  • Support and educate the Product Owner and the Business in regard of Scrum and Agile working in collaboration with Teams in IT, especially with respect to supporting the work undertaken by the team and refining and maintaining the product backlog - ensuring scope trade and focus to deliver the agreed goals.

  • Be responsible for communication, improving transparency, and radiating information, including being accountable for ensuring Rally and the boards are up to date as well as backlog tracking, burndown metrics, calculating and monitoring velocity.

  • Encourage continuous improvement and feedback through their own teams and through collaboration with the other Scrum Masters. Maintain a technical focus with applicable knowledge of the technologies used by the team and be willing to have technical involvement to support the team getting the job done.

  • Facilitate Scrum and be accountable for ensuring Scrum ceremonies are adhered to and are effective - including planning, daily standups, Retrospectives and Sprint Reviews. Also support the BAs planning and facilitation of the show & tells.

  • Full Line Management of the team - including setting and maintaining objectives, development plans and managing performance.

  • Support the creation and delivery of the OBC, SOW, RFP and Lift-Off events as appropriate.


It would be great if you had…

  • Background in Software Development

  • Object orientated programming / Design (OOP OOD) and / or Procedural programming and / or SQL

  • Great Communication/facilitation / coaching

  • Experience of Agile, Scrum


Desirable, but not essential:

  • Scrum Master/Team Lead experience

  • Scrum certification

  • J2EE, .NET, Universe Basic, MS­SQL server, Fitnesse, Selenium, Cucumber

  • TDD, BDD, XP practices
