We at Travis Perkins Group PLC have an exceptional opportunity to join us as a Shift Leader within our Primary Distribution Hub. We are looking for a people focused leader to drive service, safety, productivity and engagement. Reporting to the Operations Manager, you will lead a large operational team to provide a professional and consistently high standard of service to our customer base, whilst achieving agreed service targets and shift objectives. You’ll also ensure your departments operations are efficient, effective and completed in accordance with agreed processes and procedures.
You’ll report on all aspects of the operation, including budgets, KPIs, continuous improvement, training and development as well as Health and Safety. You’ll need to be comfortable leading a large number of colleagues and Section Leaders whilst providing continuous professional development to the team through coaching, mentoring and succession planning for junior colleagues.
We are looking for a motivational, proactive, engaging, hands-on leader, who will lead by example and demand the highest standards. You will need to be open minded and listen to the opinions of others, you will also be willing to highlight areas for improvement and challenge the status quo, doing whatever it takes to continuously improve operation.
You will be responsible for:
Leading / developing Section Leaders provide coaching to support daily target setting for achievement across the shift. Accountability for shift actual spend vs AOP by ensuring the shift planning & control of weekly labour requirements are met allowing for sufficient capability to meet fluctuating workload demand.
Manage shift performance within areas of operational responsibility to achieve an excellent accuracy (99.5%) and best in class service to branches and customers, whilst maintaining high levels of colleague engagement.
Manage the people process e.g; Return to Work Interviews, Disciplinary & Grievance, Flexible Working, in line with company policies & procedures, ensuring a fair and transparent process is adhered to and employee relation risks are minimised for the business.
Lead & Engage the team, promoting a positive culture to enhance high performance working practices that are continually reviewed and adjusted where necessary.
Provide team members with regular performance feedback including robust year end evaluations that support succession planning for the department/site.
This is a key senior leadership level role within the business, in order to be considered you will need to have:
Led, managed and coached a large operational team in a similar distribution environment to include the HR and people process.
The ability to understand volume fluctuation and to coach direct reports on altering shift resource and headcount in order to accommodate changing volume. Be competent at managing budgets and costs in relation to people resources, MHE.
Having strong resource planning skills, knowledge of LEAN methodologies (Six sigma Greenbelt) would be a huge benefit.
