Supporting our colleagues’ well-being inside and outside of work

Within the Travis Perkins Group, nothing is more important than the safety and well-being of our colleagues - we want everyone in our business to go home safe and well every single day. It’s our supportive, inclusive culture, and our approach to what’s actually important in life that are among the many reasons why Travis Perkins is a great place to work.

Why is colleague well-being important to us?

It’s simple; our people are the reason we are successful. They’re the backbone of our business, so we want to look after them. And, our rewards and benefits are designed to do just that! Not only do we support, engage and motivate colleagues, but we also try to meet their emotional, physical and financial well-being needs, both inside and outside of work.

Emotional well-being

Promoting positive emotional well-being in the workplace has never been more important. Our expanding network of trained mental-health first aiders and 24/7 Employee Assistance Programme is available whenever our colleagues need support or advice for their mental health.

We’re always looking out for the best interests of our colleagues. During the height of the coronavirus pandemic, for example, colleagues across the group received weekly ‘Check-In Tuesday’ pulse surveys designed to find out how people were feeling and what we could do to support them at the time.

Physical well-being

We drive a culture of ‘Calling it Out’, which includes anything that doesn’t look or sound right, including inappropriate banter and behaviours. It’s important that we instil confidence in our colleagues across our Group so that when they come across something that may cause some form of harm to themselves or others, they speak up.

We also encourage colleagues to ‘Stop, Step Back and Think’ before they act if they feel a task is unsafe, knowing they’ll be fully supported in doing so.

Financial well-being

It’s no secret that with bills rising, the cost of living crisis is going to have an impact on each and every one of us. Supporting our colleagues with their financial well-being means helping them make the most of their money day to day, dealing with the unexpected, and being on track for a healthy financial future.

Ultimately, people who experience financial well-being are less stressed, and therefore we offer financial advice, support and perks like access to Wagestream, an app-based solution which allows colleagues to take control of their money, to help them be more confident, empowered and resilient. Plus, there are a range of discount and cashback offers at over 700 retailers, including the major supermarkets, cinemas, holidays, utilities, homeware, gym discounts, experience days, eating out and many more to enhance well-being via our benefits and recognition platform - myPerks.

Stay Well Hub

But our support doesn’t end there. Every colleague has access to our Stay Well Hub where they can find emotional, physical and financial well-being videos, tips and resources to help them make informed life choices and support them to feel at their best, including access to Munch, Move, Mind for recipes, exercises and mental well-being tools.
