Jaime is a Customer Sales Expert at Travis Perkins and has been with the company for three years. During her time with the Group, Jaime has held a variety of roles. Each has offered her the flexibility she has needed to balance her work with taking care of her two children. We had a chat with Jaime to find out more about how Travis Perkins has supported her and why joining the Group was a great career move.
“I currently work 7.30am to 1.30pm, Monday to Friday”
Jaime was looking for a job that could give her flexibility she needed to suit the needs of her family. Travis Perkins offered a permanent contract that would let her do this, and she now starts the working day earlier and gets off in time to pick her children up from school. She explains that the support she’s received from the business is just one of the reasons why she loves working for the Group and why she describes herself as “green and gold, through and through”.
“I’ve only been here two weeks, but it’s going to be my baby”
Having recently joined the Woodley branch, Jaime now works on a managed service contract for a large local customer. Her role can vary a lot from one day to the next. Typically, she’ll spend the first few hours on the counter, helping customers who come in to collect their order. It’s “all hands on deck” at her branch, so she helps out where she can.
“A few weeks in, I knew that I had made the right choice”
Jaime looks back to when she interviewed for her first job at Travis Perkins. The thing she remembers most is how welcoming their Regional Operations Manager was. They got along really well, so Jaime knew she’d be a good fit at the company. Within a few weeks in her new role, she knew it had been a great career move.
“I wanted a new challenge”
Jaime came to the Group with 15 years of experience in electrical wholesale. When we asked Jaime why she joined Travis Perkins, she explained that she was looking for something different. Jaime joined our Acre Road branch in Reading as the first female employee. Shortly after, she had a few more female colleagues join her.
“I’ve completed my Level 2 Customer Services Apprenticeship”
Like many of our other colleagues, Jaime has taken advantage of the award-winning Apprenticeships we offer. She explains that the programme improved her product knowledge, helped her to communicate better with customers, taught her to be more assertive, and gave her multi-tasking skills a boost.
“I don’t dread getting up and going to work”
For Jaime, the variety in her day is what she enjoys most about her role. Every day there is a chance to learn something new and there are new people to talk to. She enjoys building rapport with customers and the banter she has with her colleagues. It’s why she loves coming to work each day.
“There are lots of opportunities and lots of places to progress”
Jaime’s advice for anybody looking at part-time opportunities at Travis Perkins is to be confident. There’s so much training available, and the Group will always invest in their people. Jaime explains this is what sets Travis Perkins apart from other companies. People join the company and immediately they’re given the training they need. If you need a forklift license to do your job, Jaime says that the Group will make it happen.
