5 reasons to become a Driver at Travis Perkins plc: Our Driver Benefits & Perks
Drive your career forward by getting behind the wheel of one of the UK’s largest fleets. At the Travis Perkins Group, we value Drivers - as skilled navigators, manoeuvres, custodians of great customer service and most importantly the face of our business.
Here are 5 reasons why you should consider a Driving role with us:
Support from qualified Drivers
When you join, you’ll be paired up with a Lead Driver - someone in your region that's been with the business for a while. They’ll act as a mentor so you can find your feet, adjust to your new job, and answer any questions you may have.
You’ll have this mentor for however long you need to feel comfortable but definitely the first full week, and then as and when needed.
Work towards a qualification
You’ll have access to a Driver Training Team who are experts in their fields and lead driving courses to help develop and enhance your driving skills.
These sessions are arranged to fit around your role so you’ll have the option to have in-person or virtual sessions which can range from an hour to a full day, depending on what’s being covered.
And, any time you spend training counts towards a Driver CPC qualification. This is a major benefit for working at Travis Perkins plc as in other organisations you may have to take time out of work to complete this training and pay for your own qualifications.
Here it’s within your contracted hours so you can maintain your professional status as a Driver without having to pay for it.
Driver Bonus scheme
Our Drivers can earn a bonus of up to £2,400 per year through our Driver Bonus Scheme. Drivers are assessed on how well they control their vehicles, how safe they are, and their professionalism as a Driver. They are then rated on a scale and given a score.
If they receive a positive rating, this also signals a positive environmental knock-on. For example, if they are breaking harshly, this leads to more carbon emissions and a lower score. At Travis Perkins plc, we recognise the impact our activities have on the natural and built environment and on society and we take our responsibilities to lead on our sustainability agenda very seriously.
Be appreciated for your hard work - Driver of the Year Awards
One of our values is giving our best to be the best - pushing ourselves to be bold, go the extra mile and deliver, and always be proud to own our actions - so your hard work won’t go unnoticed. Every year, each one of our businesses recognise and celebrate the accomplishments of one of their drivers who has gone above and beyond with a Driver of the Year Award.
Richard Horton, Fleet Services Director, commented “We hold the Driver of the Year event to recognise the best of the best in our businesses. It's so important to give our drivers the recognition they deserve for the tough job they do day in, day out.”
Our 2022 Driver of the Year Award winners were treated to a karting and outdoor activities away day.
Work-life balance
Nothing is more important than the safety and well-being of our colleagues and that everyone goes home safe and well to their families and friends every single day.
A big part of keeping our colleagues happy is maintaining a great work-life balance. In fact, most of our drivers are back in the branch by 3.30 pm and finish at 5 pm. Our local, multidrop schedules means our Drivers are on the road for about 4 hours a day with an average of 5 drops per day.
Our Drivers are local to branches and one of the reasons our colleagues stay at Travis Perkins is that, unlike other Driving jobs, they can sleep in their own beds at night, spend time with their friends and family, and enjoy life outside of work.
We also offer Driver wellbeing support because of the remote nature of this role so we can support you in bringing your best self to work.
