Unveiling IT excellence at Travis Perkins plc: Vanessa’s colleague story
Meet Vanessa Vasani: Head of Enterprise Architecture
Vanessa Vasani, Head of Enterprise Architecture at Travis Perkins plc, brings a wealth of experience to the table.
Having worked as a Management Consultant specialising in the Retail Industry, Vanessa's passion for technology and innovation led her to Travis Perkins.
She was drawn by the unique opportunity to apply her expertise in a client-facing capacity within Travis Perkins business and make a substantial impact. All of our colleagues at Travis Perkins plc are passionate about making a difference and are committed to building better communities.
What are your responsibilities as Head of Enterprise Architecture?
“My role involves liaising with Travis Perkins Brands and Central Functions leadership to understand their technology imperatives and opportunities.
From strategic projects like product and payments to branch operations concerns like printing, I and my team are at the forefront of technological advancements within the organisation.
I enjoy the breadth of both business and technical domains that my role encompasses.”
If you're passionate about technology and being part of a brand that values innovation and progress, Travis Perkins is the place to be. Joining the IT team is a chance to contribute to a future where technology drives meaningful transformations.
How does the IT team make an impact on the wider business?
“My team operates across the intersection of colleague, customer, supplier, finance, and technology domains.
We play a pivotal role in key projects such as Apex, a new finance system, Pricing, Sales Hub, and Delivery Management to improve customer and colleague experience, create operational efficiencies and demonstrate TP's thought leadership in the construction industry.
The team collaborates closely with various business units, employing methodologies like Lean IX and an Enterprise Architecture tool that documents a vast array of applications used by Travis Perkins for efficient planning and solution design.”
No matter what role you are in, your expertise will be valued in our business. We believe ‘we’re better together’ at Travis Perkins plc so we work together to share knowledge, learn and grow - making the most of who we are and what we do.
What do you enjoy most about the IT department at Travis Perkins plc?
“My colleagues are smart, fun and considerate. People here are always around to help you learn and grow. It is a courteous culture, where things get done through self-motivation rather than pressure from above.
What also sets Travis Perkins apart is the supportive environment that encourages growth and development.”
We are working to create an environment where everyone belongs, feels safe and comfortable about who they are, is valued for their contribution and can perform at their best: You Be You, It Makes Us Us.
How has your career progressed since joining the business?
“I’ve made significant strides in my role - hiring two new members, acquiring a third, and actively looking for two more team members to join the IT department.
I’m really enjoying my time as a line manager and mentor and am looking forward to seeing my team grow.”
Vanessa is also currently pursuing a Data Apprenticeship, a testament to our commitment to nurturing talent.
The development of our people is key to securing the future of the Group’s businesses and the construction industry more widely. In fact, we offer over 40+ Apprenticeship programmes and a range of workplace and training opportunities.
She emphasises, "Whilst the Apprenticeship is quite technical - including SQL, Python and other aspects of Data Science, I have been given full support by my manager to take the required time to do this, which I really appreciate."
