Regional Relief HGV Drivers are part of the Regional Operations Support Team and provide driving cover for multiple sites within a particular sub-region to cover branch driver holidays, absences, peak trading etc. Regional Relief HGV Drivers are responsible for transporting builder’s merchant products from the branch to our customer’s sites on a multidrop basis. The role is critical in keeping our operation running smoothly, reliably and making sure we provide an excellent service to our customers. Regional Relief HGV drivers are responsible for ensuring their vehicle and load is road safe, following the company's policies and Government legislation, and will have the opportunity to progress through the company with development and training, including the option to complete an apprenticeship.

What will you be doing?
You’ll be delivering building materials from our branch to local customers, making sure everything’s safe and sound. You’ll load up your vehicle with the HIAB, double-check it’s all properly packed and legal, and then hit the road. As our face on the road, you’ll keep it professional while making around 14 drops a day, then head back to the branch to reload when needed.This is primarily a relief driving role. You'll will be primarily based in Plymouth TP as your "Home Hub". But the role will be covering several branches. 

J  Key Responsibilities:

  1. Health & Safety

  • Assist your team in the loading and unloading of goods, following the companies Safe Loading/Unloading Principles

  • Make sure all materials are secured  to prevent shifting, damage or lost loads during transportation

  • Use the correct Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) as set out and provided to you by the company

  • Complete daily vehicle checks to ensure the vehicle is road safe, and report/action any issues found

  • Report near misses, incidents and unsafe practices to make sure we stay safe and improve our operation

  • Follow all Health & Safety requirements in the branch, on the road and at delivery sites

  • Take full responsibility for your own fitness to drive at all times

  1. Customers

  • Speak to customers in a professional manner, addressing their enquiries and concerns 

  • Deliveries must be accurate, timely and reliable to ensure customer satisfaction

  • Maintain proactive communication with the customers, and raise any complaints or concerns to management

  • Go above and beyond to fulfil our customer’s requests, keeping health and safety at the forefront of everything you do

  1. Operations

  • Use company reporting systems and technologies to perform your day-to-day duties

  • Work with management to improve vehicle utilisation and contribute to branch success

  • Complete accurate delivery paperwork

  • Use tachograph equipment to accurately record driving hours and follow regulations

  • Complete all mandated company training 

Who you are:

  • Requirements: You’ll need a Class 2 driving license, up-to-date CPC records, and 12+ months of driving experience.

  • HIAB experience: Crane work would also be beneficial but not essential to this role as all the training etc will be given. 

  • Customer-focused: You’ll be confident building and developing relationships with customers.

  • Safety-focused: You’ll prioritize safety in every aspect of your work, completing tasks in a professional manner.
