Travis Perkins have recently completed a data centre exit programme which has migrated all of our operational services into AWS as our primary cloud provider. We’re now embarking on an optimisation and modernisation phase which will look to transform these traditional services to take better advantage of cloud opportunities. In addition we are restructuring our teams now we’re fully operational in the public cloud and this has created an opportunity for a new team leader within our Tech & Data function.


This vacancy is for a Senior Cloud Platforms Product Owner to lead our Technology Platform Services team who will be accountable for delivering cloud platforms for our internal customers. The successful candidate will be responsible for managing the day-to-day activities of the team, setting direction and planning, as well as supporting colleagues growth and development.


The ideal candidate for this role will have a strong technical background, and proven experience managing the transformation of the more traditional enterprise workloads to take advantage of cloud ways of working, as well as great team leadership skills.


This role is Hybrid working, so travel to our Travis Perkins head office based in Northampton is required twice a week!


The Key accountabilities of this role include:


Cloud Platform Delivery & Operations

Responsible for managing the provisioning and delivery of complex ‘technology & data’ cloud platform services for their team. Performance, reliability, scalability, cost effectiveness and security are key components for consideration and ongoing management. Teams are set up and driven to support, maintain, evolve and continually improve the existing cloud platform landscape in an effective manner. New business requirements are handled and executed in line with expectations, and services are decommissioned in a timely manner.  


Security, Risk, Compliance, Documentation 

Ensuring the services under direct responsibility (technology cloud platforms) are delivered securely and in line with information security & privacy policies, with close management of KPIs, risks, and emerging threats. Key processes are documented and executed consistently wherever possible.


Resilience & Recoverability

Cloud platforms are the foundational building blocks for delivering technology & data services to our business and customers. They must be designed with resilience and recoverability in mind, and tested regularly to ensure that outages are limited and the time to recover from an outage/incident of any kind is not detrimental to the business. Plan and deliver regular technical testing and execution of recoverability plans to ensure SLAs (RTO/RPO) and SLOs are met.


Financial & Vendor Management 

Outcomes are delivered in line with set budgets. Contributing to forecasting and planning of required budgets and the identification and delivery of cost efficiency opportunities are on ongoing requirements. Budget responsibility spans both contract management and technology projects specifically under the team's control. Supporting management of large vendor relationships and significant contracts where applicable.


People Development

Lead, manage, develop and coach your allocated cloud engineering profession colleagues to enable excellent performance. Ensure all colleagues know what good-performance looks like. Nurture emerging talent to become future leaders and manage poor performance using the Travis Perkins people manager toolkit. Ensure all HR processes are followed for the entire team to include PDR’s, Annual Reviews, absence, & disciplinary policies etc. 


Unified Delivery, Planning & Execution

Responsible for own roadmaps and plans for services, ensuring medium to long term visibility of investment and risk. Advise and support other teams' cloud roadmaps for strategic alignment. Projects are proposed, planned and delivered as needed, ensuring effective execution and continuous improvement for the team's platform capability.


Leadership

Influence and delivery outside of the role holder's specific team and accountability is an expectation. Playing a key role in the wider platforms and operations function. Build good relationships with peers, key stakeholders and different teams, actively engage and participate in wider spanning initiatives and focus areas. 


What you’ll need to have/be:


  • Educated to A Level Standard with strong industry experience

  • Established professional with over 5 years experience in a cloud platform role or similar

  • Experience in a role where it was necessary to be able to prioritise a range of different tasks

  • Motivated and driven individual who can manage their own time while working to deadlines

  • Strong experience working within an ITIL / Standards orientated enterprise organisation

  • Experience running a team delivering in an Agile methodology

  • Understanding of managing staff in a matrix structure 

  • Established team management experience including good mentoring and development

  • Effective communicator with good non-verbal communication skills

  • Able to use a variety of productivity packages e.g. Google workspace tooling.

  • Strong problem solving and analytical skills

  • Practiced presenter

  • A clear understanding of continual service improvement

  • Commercial experience to continually drive efficiency and manage 3rd parties 

  • Information Security focused to ensure safe and secure solution delivery

  • Experienced with Cloud FinOps to deliver cost effective solutions

  • Ability to build and maintain good working relationships with peers and members of other IT teams

  • Self motivated ability to initiate and complete tasks to deadlines

  • Flexible during times of change.

  • Strong customer service ethos.

  • Actively discusses, develops and promotes best practices within the team

  • Ability to set clear expectations and hold individuals to account with a range of styles.
