Distribution Safety Manager
Travis Perkins plc is now hiring for an energetic and influential Distribution Safety Manager to join our team at the Northampton Distribution Centre and play a critical role in driving a safe, compliant 24-hour operation.
Reporting directly to the General Manager, you will serve as the site's Health & Safety authority. Collaborating with operational leaders to embed a proactive safety culture, optimise warehousing efficiencies, manage regulatory compliance and to ensure our teams go home safe every day.
If you are a NEBOSH or IOSH qualified safety professional who views H&S as an enabler of business performance and excels at leading cross-functional teams, we’d love to hear from you!
Working Pattern & Location
Working Pattern: Full-time, standard working hours are 08:00 – 16:00 (Monday to Friday).
Shift Engagement: While core hours are daytime, there is an expectation to spend time on-site during other shifts.
There is no weekend work and no requirement to be on call.
The Opportunity
As Distribution Safety Manager, you will take complete ownership of site-wide health, safety, and operational compliance frameworks.
Leading a team consisting of one direct report and four indirect trainers, you will oversee annual Risk Assessments, Safe Operating Procedures (SOPs), incident root-cause investigations and statutory inspections.
You will chair the monthly site H&S Forum, manage our Yale Vision MHE fleet telemetry, deliver engaging training programs and use data analytics to drive continuous safety improvements across the supply chain.
What You'll Be Doing
Health & Safety Governance: Leading reviews of site Risk Assessments and SOPs, conducting incident investigations alongside line managers and driving internal Staysafe compliance.
Statutory Compliance & Inspections: Managing external engineering inspectors (Allianz/Qualitas) controlling Permits to Work, resolving equipment issues promptly, and keeping site registries audit ready.
Safety Culture & Forums: Chairing monthly H&S Forums, representing the site on cross-Group distribution panels and providing daily/quarterly safety updates to management/ site teams.
Fleet Telemetry & MHE Asset Control: Managing daily MHE fleet operations, user access levels via Yale Vision telemetry, BE Portal systems and repair PO approvals.
Data Analytics & Proactive Safety: Tracking proactive safety metrics (behavioral observations, near-miss rates, CCTV reviews) and presenting monthly supply chain reporting decks to leadership.
Training & Onboarding Delivery: Managing third-party training, delivering manual handling and designing comprehensive onboarding/induction programs.
Team Leadership & Agency Management: Directly managing and developing your team, liaising with agency partners (ACS/Siamo) and enforcing strict anti-modern slavery compliance checks.
