Job Description

Store Layout Planner 

Location - Crick, Northamptonshire  M1(Jct 18)

The successful person within this role would be to develop and create branch layouts that maximise sales profit and operational efficiency, optimise capital expenditure and deliver a great customer experience.

The role we are recruiting for is to


Deliver detailed branch layouts to:
  • Optimise the customer experience through the effective interpretation of space rules, showroom and layout planning principles
  • Maximise sales and profit by understanding sales and margin contribution by zone
  • Optimise the warehouse operation internally and externally to maximise branch productivity
  • Ensure that branch layouts are in line with capex expectations and sustainable for the duration of the contract
  • Ensure that branch layouts safeguard against health and safety risks

Develop and maintain fixture profiles so that:
  • Project costs can be forecasted and managed effectively

  • The branch operation is more efficient by having the right product in the right location (customer and colleague facing )


Manage external designers so that:
  • Where additional work is required, consistent and accurate branch plans are delivered in a timely manner and with the correct level of detail
  • Design costs are minimised
Manage the space and layouts databases so that:
  • Key stakeholders can review existing plans for future developments or initiatives
  • Property department can extract information to complete their tasks
  • Format team can access and analyse space and layout data with confidence about information integrity
  • Live development projects can be communicated to relevant business managers, cost management and external suppliers effectively and efficiently
  • Future property development schemes can be readily created

Manage the application of the Trade Counter space matrix:
  • Work with the Visual Merchandising Manager, Format Development Manager and Implementation Manager to ensure that the trade counter layout reflects the correct category space allocation
  • Identify where practical challenges prevent matrix compliance and propose commercially viable solutions

Manage the application of the Showroom bay matrix:
  • Work with the Format development Manager and Implementation Manager to ensure that the Showroom layout reflects the correct bay allocation
  • Identify where practical challenges prevent matrix compliance and propose commercially viable solutions
  • Ensure that the Showroom layout conforms to the Showroom planning principles
Develop layout planning principles:
  • Work with the Format team to develop a set of layout planning principles
  • Develop a set of space planning rules that can be applied consistently to all branch layouts
  • Use the space database to establish a range of space allocation suitable for different zonal shapes 
  • Establish an adjacencies template to drive layout planning consistency 
  • Develop, maintain and use a checklist to ensure planning principles are achieved
Communication:
  • Ensure the latest version of all branch plans is communicated to relevant stakeholders
  • Version control is maintained and changes annotated effectively
It would be great if you had: 
  • Trained in Autocad (Computer Aided Design) to design and produce layout plans with supporting levels  of business data
  • Sketchup would be preferred
  • Proven experience of influencing senior stakeholders
  • Broad layout and space planning experience across retail and trade industries
  • Spatial awareness - ability to assess and visualise the branch operating environment in 3D from the customer and staff  perspective
  • Numerical and analytical skills to design and optimise branches according to commercial needs and using known Format space rules and recommendations
  • Use change as an opportunity to find new and better ways to satisfy customers
  • Ability to manage and prioritise multiple projects
