Job Description

The Role
 
We have an opening in the Tool Hire business, for Head of Commercial to join the newly formed Leadership team. This newly created  role reports directly into the MD for Tool Hire, and will drive the commercial agenda, including the development and delivery of the Category Strategies aligned to 3-year plan for Tool Hire. You will build and lead a team to execute and deliver this through the ownership of key supplier relationships, customer contact plan, trading, ranging and pricing decisions with a focus on customer and branch support.
 
Principle Accountabilities:

  • Working closely with the Fleet Director to develop a market leading range combining fleet (owned) tools and re-hire balancing core range with extensions and innovation.
  • Developing availability and service measurements with suppliers to support customer experience and drive sales.
  • Developing a clear online digital - led customer journey.
  • Working with the marketing, digital, sales and branch operations teams to build a customer growth plan with clear communications aimed at delivering the TH strategic goals.
  • Creating and leading a trading plan to deliver the category financials i.e. budgets / forecasting / COGS / trading accounts / market share.
  • Leading, managing and developing a team of 3-4 direct reports, as well as providing support and leadership for the commercial agenda to the Tool Hire Senior Leadership Team. 
  • Reviewing trading performance, identifying areas of concern / opportunity and take appropriate action in line with the category role and intent
  • Developing a clear pricing strategy linking into the core business and working with the pricing team
  • Delivering Tool Hire pricing and range reviews to optimise category performance
  • Establishing a supply base strategy and management of supplier relationships, to maximise return
  • Leading and developing cross-functional and TP Group collaborative relationships
  • Leading and managing the Tool Hire Category team in defining and managing the key strategic category plans, delivering a compelling customer proposition, driving sales and profit growth and market share.
  • Ownership of all key strategic external supplier relationships including all commercial trading terms, ensuring opportunities are maximised.

What are we looking for?
 
Our Tool Hire business is a key part of the group strategic growth strategy and there is a high level of ambition for the business in this area, so this is an exciting opportunity for someone who enjoys a challenge, but who is adept at establishing and developing a new business model.  With a high potential growth opportunity you will bring extensive commercial experience gained ideally in a B2B or multichannel environment where you have built, led and coached a team.
 
The breadth of the role encompasses key supplier trading relationships, ranging and pricing decisions, and so requires someone with strong applied analytical skills using data to drive decisions, with the ability to shape and execute the commercial strategy. There is a high level of autonomy in this role, and as such, you will be responsible for decision making under your own initiative. 
 
You will be ambitious, and comfortable in stepping into a senior leadership role, demonstrated by excellent stakeholder management skills. Ideally you’ll have experience working within a fast-paced and matrix’d group environment, as the role requires exceptional communication and influencing skills, engaging with a diverse range of customers both internally across the group and externally too. 
 
As a key member of the senior leadership team, you will bring energy and pace to developing the business model, and shaping the future success of the business. Together with an entrepreneurial mindset, self starter approach and methodical and analytical thinking style, you will be comfortable challenging the ‘status quo’ with a proven track record in delivering exceptional results.
