Position: Head of Fleet
Location: UK - Flexible (with regular travel)
Are you a seasoned professional in fleet management with a passion for excellence in compliance, safety, and asset optimisation? Travis Perkins, the UK's largest supplier of building materials, is looking for a dynamic and experienced Head of Fleet to lead our business unit's fleet operations.
Role Purpose:
As our Head of Fleet,, you will be responsible for overseeing all fleet-related activities within our Travis Perkins business. Your primary objective will be to ensure that all assets are available and compliant with legal and Group requirements. You will manage fleet asset replacement, maintain FORS accreditation, and drive continuous improvement across the fleet's operations.
Key Responsibilities:
Compliance Management: Ensure driver, vehicle, ancillary equipment, and MHE (Materials Handling Equipment) compliance is in line with the Group’s Operating Licences and regulatory requirements.
Operational Efficiency: Collaborate with Regional Directors and other key stakeholders to enhance vehicle and MHE utilisation, reduce costs, and improve asset availability.
Fleet Asset Management: Lead the fleet asset replacement program, including CAPEX approval, funding, and vehicle specification design in collaboration with the Centre of Expertise.
Accreditation and Training: Oversee the implementation of fleet accreditation activities, such as FORS driver training, audits, and driver engagement initiatives.
Supplier and Stakeholder Management: Act as the point of escalation for fleet supplier-related matters and support the management of fleet suppliers in collaboration with the Centre of Expertise.
Fleet Improvement Initiatives: Drive Group-wide fleet improvement programs, including decarbonisation efforts, compliance with local air quality standards, and regulatory changes.
Crisis Management: Lead investigations into major asset failures and enforcement actions, sharing lessons learned with the wider business and fleet function.
Team Leadership: Manage a team of six Regional Transport Managers, fostering a high-performing team environment focused on fleet management excellence.
Essential Qualifications and Experience:
Transport Manager National CPC Holder
Experience in a senior fleet management role, preferably within a multi-site operation
Proven track record in fleet asset replacement, financial funding, and compliance management
Strong communication skills and the ability to influence stakeholders across different levels.
Preferred Qualifications:
FORS Practitioner and Audit Qualification.
Vocational Drivers Licence (C, C+E).
Experience with MHE fleet management and re-accreditation.
Skills and Attributes:
Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
Detail-oriented with strong analytical abilities.
Proficient in using spreadsheets and the Google Suite.
Strong interpersonal skills to manage a variety of employee, management, and leadership roles.
Resilient and calm under pressure, with a logical mindset and the ability to work within undefined boundaries.
