BSS is part of the Contract Merchanting Division in the TP Group alongside CCF, Keyline and Rudridge. All four businesses in this division focus on supplying large commercial companies and project contractors and have supplied to projects such as the Shard, the Olympic stadium and Crossrail. Established over 110 years ago, BSS is now the UK’s leading distributor of pipeline, heating, process and mechanical services products, operating from a network of over 60 branches in the UK and Ireland.
The Role
The Regional Sales Director will manage a team of Account Managers and Key Account Managers from M62 North Region comprising of Liverpool, Wirral, Manchester, Oldham, Preston, Wigan, Leeds, Hull and Sheffield. Experienced in Regional Sales Management and remote people leadership, you will lead the team to understand and meet the needs of the customer through personal contact and effective management of the external sales team in order to promote BSS, its products and services to existing and potential customers and to continually review markets and products in conjunction with the external sales team to target new business opportunities.
Principal Accountabilities
Understanding and interpreting customer requirements whilst using every opportunity to ensure that BSS is seen to be the quality supplier in our industry.
You will participate in quality improvement activities and take initiative to improve work processes and partnerships.
Taking part in the appraisal process; driving team development through robust team objectives, work priorities and standards, and subsequently reviewing individual's' performance against them.
You’ll follow and engage colleagues in delivering an industry leading Stay Safe culture.
Recruiting and selecting, training, appraising performance, rewarding and managing employees in line with employment legislation and Company policy.
Your strategic thinking will be honed in preparing an agreed regional plan and managing the resources under your control to meet its objectives.
As an inspirational leader, you will provide an input to the sales and profit budget and monitor and review a salesperson's performance against agreed criteria in terms of territory plan, calling rate, product objectives, etc.
Exploiting advantage of the opportunities that arise through the cycle of service to maximise profit for BSS whilst maintaining the highest level of integrity, customer confidence and satisfaction.
You’’ll come with an established network but further build up contacts and customer partnerships through regular contact at the appropriate levels.
Establishing and maintaining effective working relationships between the sales force, Branch Managers and Branch networks in order to maximise greatest opportunity through sales performance, customer potential etc.
Proactively seek opportunities to continually improve processes and ways of working across the branch/region/business and sharing of best practice.
Be a leader and role model to colleagues.
What we are looking for?
Reporting to the Regional Director, you will evidence ambition, self motivation, and passion about delivering growth through developing the people within your team. Whilst remaining diplomatic, you will have a professional assertion enabling you to engage with a diverse set of stakeholders internally and externally and manage, influence and motivate others. As a seasoned strategic thinker, the successful candidate will ideally have market and sector knowledge, failing that, knowledge at a similar level within an adjacent business, a good balance of people leadership, supplier management, customer focus, business development and sales experience, specifically focussed around this region.
Emotional intelligence and self awareness are the order of the day for this role, you will showcase your ability to tailor your leadership style where required and will have countless examples of your experience in developing members of your remote team. We really are looking for someone has left a positive legacy in their previous role, can operate at a strategic level, challenge the status quo and drive a team to achieve sales growth through the region. Clearly you will have a network of contacts in this geography, including established relationships with suppliers and customers, we are looking for a background in doing something groundbreaking to achieve yours and the businesses ambitious growth targets. Presence and the ability to command an audience at all levels, go hand in hand with a role of this level.
