What will you be doing?

You will be a member of the Infrastructure hosting team as a designer whose role is to translate requirements from solutions architects into deployable and runnable designs. The hosting team also includes a team of infrastructure deployment analysts whose role is to build the solutions. The Design and Build teams are then responsible for transferring the finished solution into the infrastructure run teams after all operational readiness testing and knowledge transfers have been completed.

The Hosting team predominantly provides platforms to the TP Group IT software engineering teams to build bespoke solutions or for third-party software vendors to deploy packages. We, therefore, work with these engineering teams or 3rd parties and the TP architects throughout the development lifecycle to ensure our platforms deliver the desired overall solution.

The ultimate platform for these solutions could be within one of our data centres, leveraging the capabilities of the Public cloud  (AWS, Google Compute or Azure) or integrating a SaaS solution into pre-existing services. 

During the design phase the designer will be required to engage with IT security, resource managers, Project Managers, Architecture, infrastructure build teams, software engineering Teams, sometimes third parties, IT service managers, support teams and TP business representatives, as such the successful candidate will have demonstrated excellent collaboration and communication skills and will have experience of designing enterprise class solutions in a similar sized organisation. 

Key Deliverables

• Producing high level and low level technical designs, with adherence to IT design authority processes, as well as change control processes.

• Delivering Proof of Concepts to demonstrate solutions 

• Supporting infrastructure build engineers and, on some occasions, participating in the build activities, to ensure the successful introduction of a solution

• Defining operational acceptance testing of solutions and ensuring solutions are fully tested before being handed over to the run teams. 

• Production of operating instructions and leading the knowledge transfer to build and support teams for new technology

• Providing short term support during project delivery, and ongoing fourth line support for solutions. On occasions this may involve some out of hours telephone / remote support. 

Key Skills Required

• Designing and Deploying enterprise solutions across multiple OS (Windows, Ubuntu Linux & RedHat)

• Working knowledge of Microsoft Active Directory, Group Policy, and Powershell

• Microsoft SCOM, VMM, WSUS and SCCM 

• Experience in working on a HyperV virtualised environment in an enterprise class data centre. 

• Experience of  designing and deploying solutions on Cloud Infrastructure is an advantage
