The Senior Software Operations Engineer will be responsible for providing expert technical skills within a team, taking the lead in development, maintenance & support of software services in scope, including automation where appropriate, taking the lead in ensuring best practices are followed in all areas.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Be an internal UniVerse Subject Matter Expert, providing code, configuration and support services to meet business requirements. Specialising in i.e. developing an in-depth process knowledge as well as detailed technical/functional configuration knowledge of specific business process areas, with a basic configuration working knowledge of other processes.
  • Change, enhance and support the service configuration, based on detailed business process models by working closely with business process owners, architects and business analysts to ensure the system can support the approved models. Analyse, propose, test and promote any appropriate changes through the system landscape, using prototyping as appropriate. Capturing relevant training material and knowledge articles, for wider use across the business and IT support functions. Ensure the system stays on the upgrade path and ensure system upgrades are planned and fully tested.
  • Provide 2nd line support, meeting the agreed SLAs and OLAs including out of hours support on a rota. Working closely with 3rd party suppliers to understand how the system is configured to support change.
  • Implement high quality software and conduct assurance reviews throughout the software development lifecycle. Produce the simplest possible solutions to business problems with highly testable and maintainable code. Work using TDD and BDD (where appropriate) to design the software and lower both code complexity and nesting depths. Support the aims of Technical Design with respect to software quality and design patterns and automation of delivery pipelines.
  • Monitor and tune service health end to end through optimisation, with a view to proactively avoiding service incidents. Manage problems to remove service affecting incidents.
  • Continuous improvement - Act on the development metrics and retrospective feedback to maintain and continuously improve the performance of the team. Be prepared to offer constructive feedback to team members and act on feedback from others.
  • Be an active participant in the appropriate development methodology, be enthusiastic and communicate clearly to all stakeholders, building relationships both internally and with external 3rd party providers as required. Be prepared to carry out the team lead role as required. 
  • Mentor junior members of the team to help build their skills and confidence. Provide technical guidance and ensure that quality, standards and best practice are adhered to. Proactively develop skills as required to support changes in technology and for personal development.
