General Manager
Benchmarx is one of the UK's leading trade kitchen brands, part of Travis Perkins, and our Cabinet Production facility at Brackmills, Northampton, is where it all comes together. Every kitchen we deliver starts here, on the production floor we're looking for you to lead.
We're hiring a General Manager to take full operational ownership of our cabinet manufacturing site. This is a senior leadership role with real scope: a management team of six, an extended workforce of 70, around £8m of production and stock under your control, and a direct line to Rosie Wise, Benchmarx Managing Director. If you've built your career in large-scale manufacturing or distribution and you're ready to put your stamp on a site, this is one to look at.
What you'll own
Health & Safety first, always. You'll lead our 'Stay Safe' strategy on site, working with Safety Business Partners and the PDH Training Team to build a culture where safety isn't a poster on the wall, it's how we operate.
People and culture. Recruit, motivate, coach and develop your team. Drive engagement and create the kind of environment where people want to do their best work.
Operational excellence. Run the day-to-day, analyse KPIs, hit SLAs, identify productivity gains, and act as the bridge between Cabinet Operations and our branch network. Manage our third-party transport provider to spec, cost and performance.
Quality and stock. Full accountability for stock management systems, inbound and outbound QC, audits, and 100% inventory accuracy.
Financial control. Full P&L responsibility, build the budget with finance, deliver to it, and find the savings.
Strategic planning. Forecast for peaks like our Big Savings Event, make sure production and transport can flex, and play a key role in wider supply and distribution projects.
What we're looking for
A proven track record leading operational teams in a large-scale distribution, manufacturing or supply chain environment
Demonstrable delivery of efficient manufacturing operations, cost control and on-time customer fulfilment
Strong financial and commercial acumen, comfortable owning a P&L, managing budgets, and turning data into action
The interpersonal range to influence everyone from the shop floor to the boardroom, plus suppliers and service partners
A continuous improvement mindset and the resilience to lead through ambiguity
Deep understanding of H&S standards in a DC or manufacturing setting
Nice to have
IOSH Managing Safely, CMI Level 5–7 (or similar leadership qualification), or Lean Six Sigma Green Belt and above.
Why Benchmarx, why now
You'll be leading the engine room of a growing trade kitchen business, with the backing of one of the UK's largest building materials groups behind you. The remit is broad, the autonomy is real, and the decisions you make will be felt across every Benchmarx kitchen that leaves this site.
If you're a senior operations leader looking for a role with genuine scope and accountability, we'd like to talk.
